Jason is originally from New England and moved to Crystal River, FL when he was in middle school. He came to Jacksonville to attend UNF working at Earth Works and graduating with a degree in Finance.

How it all started. In their own words.

Living in Jacksonville at the time, McGregor and Fechtel and their wives met by chance during a wedding in St. Petersburg. “Our good friends said we had to meet Doug and Terri because they are a fun couple,” said Fechtel. “Little did we know that eight months later, we were going to start our own business.”

After graduating from college with finance degrees, McGregor worked as a banker and Fechtel as a financial planner when they decided to make the change. “We loved our jobs until the market crashed in 1987, threatening our positions,” McGregor recalled. “We decided to walk away from our coat-and-tie jobs. We neither had kids nor big mortgages, so we planned our exit strategy and started the company.”

“I had worked in a garden center growing up, and Mark mowed grass as the “boy next door.” We knew landscaping was the kind of work we liked.”

WITH OUR NEIGHBORS

Here at Earth Works, we believe in spreading the happiness outdoor living and gardening can add to the quality of life here in our community. We love giving back by contributing to Jacksonville’s beauty and well-being through good works like supporting Eagle Scout landscaping projects, planting vegetable gardens with inner-city kids, gardening projects at the Arboretum, or building waterfalls for some special BIG CATS.

IMPROVING THE LIVES OF WILD ANIMALS

We love enhancing the habitats of some special big cats, enriching their day to day lives, and supporting this wonderful organization’s mission.

“Our mission is to provide a safe, loving, forever home for endangered big cats, and to educate the public about their plight in the wild and captivity.”  Our primary focus is in the rescue of exotic animals from serious situations.
